I have played Free Fire since 2018, and I never felt let down by an update before. The last two changed that. Every match now brings a Free Fire update problem: lag, lobby lag, mic echo, fake damage and login errors.
I believe it is the game, not my phone. And Garena support has already confirmed one of these problems. Here is my proof.
Why I know it's not my phone
I started on a Lenovo tablet. Then I used a Redmi 6 Pro in college sem 1 and an Oppo A55 in sem 5. In 2024, I got an iQOO Z9. Now I play on a Google Pixel 9 Pro.
Five devices, eight years, and the game ran fine on all of them. My Pixel 9 Pro is one of the strongest phones I have owned (I even wrote a detailed breakdown of using the Google Pixel 9 Pro for Free Fire, where it handled Ultra settings at max framerates with zero throttling).
When I reported the lag to Garena, I sent a screen recording. It showed about 86 GB of free storage and a stable network, and the game still lagged, especially when the lobby started to lag.
Free Fire mic problem: Garena confirmed it
This is my biggest issue. When I turn on my mic, my voice echoes, my teammates sound unclear, and sometimes the game lags, freezes or even closes on its own.
I use Bluetooth headphones, and the game sound and the mic audio seemed to split apart. I deleted and reinstalled the game three times and updated my phone. Nothing changed.
On Aug 17, 2026, I sent a support ticket. On Aug 20, Garena replied that it is aware of an ongoing Free Fire voice chat bug, with echo, doubled audio and game sound dropping when the mic is active. The team is investigating, but they could not give a timeline because the bug is complex.
So the Free Fire mic echo problem is not my headphones. Garena itself described it as a known bug.

My support ticket from Aug 17 to Aug 29, 2026, with Garena's reply on Aug 20. Personal details are hidden.
Update (October 10, 2026): As of today, the voice chat and mic echo bug is still persisting in Free Fire MAX despite recent minor patches. Garena has acknowledged the issue but has yet to roll out an official fix.
Free Fire max lag problem after update
Lag is the next problem. Other players report the same. A Play Store reviewer says the network pin turns red as soon as a match starts, and another says "Reconnecting" appears during matches even with stable internet.
That makes the Free Fire network problem 2026 hard to blame on one phone or one internet plan.
Free Fire lobby lag
Sometimes the lobby lags before the match even starts. A long-time player on the App Store described lobby freezes during emotes and "Network Error" messages after an update.
That review is from 2025, so Free Fire lobby lag has appeared in more than one update.
Free Fire fake damage
You hit the shot, but the enemy takes no damage.
Garena has explained before that high ping can make the server treat some damage as invalid, so a hit looks like it did nothing. This is not limited to one phone. On Sept 30, 2026, Brazilian players reported shots that failed to register damage, and a player on a Samsung A26 5G complained of no damage in every match of the 2026 beta.
Free Fire login problem and server glitches
Sometimes I can't log in at all. This has happened before. In April 2024, players got a "Network Connection Error" and the game got stuck on the loading screen.
When many players see the same error at once, the servers are the likely cause.
Garena has only confirmed the mic bug to me, not the lag, damage or login problems. So I am sharing those as my own experience and what other players report.
Why players quit Free Fire
I'm not the only one asking this question. The topic "what made you quit Free Fire" is discussed on r/freefire, and you can share your own reason there.
From what I see across recent community feedback and Google Play Store reviews, there is no single reason. Players still praise the core gameplay and gun mechanics, but repeatedly point out glitches, unfair rank deductions, fake damage, audio lag, and unexpected penalties.
That matches my experience. Each problem is small, but together they make the game less fun: lag, lost damage, login errors, a mic that echoes. I am still here after eight years, but I want Garena to fix the basics before the next collab.
What players can actually do
- Report it to Garena through in-game customer service. I did, and it got me a reply confirming the mic bug. Send your device model, the time and a screen recording. My first ticket had no recording, and a recording makes it easier for them to act.
- Check if others have the same error before you spend hours changing settings.
- Update when a patch comes. For the damage bug, the advice was to log out, log back in and install the latest update.
- Leave honest feedback on the Play Store with your device name.
- Skip unofficial "lag fix" files. They change game files and can put your account at risk.
FAQ
Why is my Free Fire mic echoing or the game lagging when I use voice chat?
Garena support has said it is aware of a microphone and voice chat issue that causes echo, doubled audio and dropped game sound when the mic is active. The team is investigating but gave no fix date. Meanwhile, report it with a screen recording and your device model.
Why is Free Fire lagging after the update?
Lag can come from your phone, your network or the game servers. If it continues on a strong phone with stable internet, and other players report the same, it is likely a server or update issue. Report it to Garena with your device model and a screen recording.
What is fake damage in Free Fire?
Fake damage is when your shot visibly hits an enemy but their health does not drop. Garena has said high ping can make the server treat some damage as invalid. Logging out, logging back in and updating the game is the first fix to try.
Why can't I log in to Free Fire?
Login errors usually come from server maintenance, an expired session or a weak connection. If many players report the same error, it is likely a server outage. Wait a few minutes, log in again and update the game.
Why do players quit Free Fire?
Players mention many small problems, not one big reason: glitches, lag, fake damage, unfair rank deductions and account bans. For me, it is the lag and the mic bug after the last two updates. Share your reason in the comments.
Are Free Fire lag fix files safe?
No. Third-party lag fix files or APKs change game files and can put your account at risk. Report the problem to Garena instead.
Are you facing these problems too? Tell me your device and the problem in the comments.
